The table below shows the consumer durables(telephone,refrigerator,etc) owned in Britain from 1972 to 1983.

The table illustrates the percentage of British households with the consumer durables from 1972 to 1983.
As we can see in the table, there was steadily increase in all consumer durables. Telephone ownership had the most increase among others about 35% from 1972 to 1983. Next came central heating from 37% in 1972 to 64% in 1983.
In the same period, we can see 21% increase in using the refrigerators. During this period of time, households with vacuum cleaners increased about 18% and washing machine ownership has increased from 66% to 80%, totally it has increased near 14%. At this time consumer durables like television and dishwasher increased about 5% and 2% respectively.
But only in 1983, people used videos about 18%.

The significant social changes reflected in the statistics are that the consumption of central heating and telephone in British houses rose significantly among other devices. The big increases in the ownership of these kinds of devices show that people want to live comfortably.
